Because Audacity is open source, anyone can create new improvements and software upgrades, which are often integrated into an updated version. Regularly updating Audacity will keep it running smoothly and efficiently.
1. With Audacity open, click 'Help' on the taskbar at the top of the screen, then select 'Check for Updates…' You must have an active internet connection to use the 'Check for Updates…' feature.

3. To check which version you are currently running, click 'Audacity' on the taskbar and select 'About Audacity' from the dropdown menu.
